Skin Care Men Tips

Most men want their skin to look its best - but they don't want to spend a lot of time in the bathroom to do it. Here are some no nonsense skin care for men tips that will help you to put your best face forward.

4 Essential Skin Care Men Tips:

#1 - Wash Your Face - Use a high quality facial cleanser developed especially for men's skin.

  • Washing your face twice a day is ideal.

  • If you don't want to take the time for that, at least wash your face in the evening to remove all of the oil and pollutants that your skin has accumulated throughout the day.

  • Wash your face either before shaving to prepare the beard or afterward to remove any residue left from shaving.

  • Don't use soap - it'll dry out your skin and can clog your pores causing breakouts.

#2 - Shave Your Face - You may want to purchase a good shaving foam or gel that will provide you with a smooth shave, and after you are done use an aftershave that will keep the skin smooth and help avoid any rashes.

  • Take extra care to soften the skin and hair with plenty of soap and water or shaving cream before starting.

  • Change razor blades often. Do not use a dull blade.

  • It is important that you always shave carefully. You want to avoid getting a shaving rash or any cuts on your face. If you are in a hurry it is easy to make a mistake, so use some products to help you get a great shave and take the time to do it right.

  • When shaving, do NOT shave against the grain. Many believe that shaving against the grain helps to ensure a much closer shave than shaving with the grain. There may be truth to this, but shaving against the grain also does serious damage to the skin. The benefits of saving your skin from damage by shaving with the grain far outweigh the benefits of a closer shave.
  • After shaving, be sure to moisturize. Your skin takes a beating every time you shave, so it needs to be treated after each shave to help maintain proper moisture.

#3 - Use an Aftershave - Because pre-shave products often dry the skin, use after-shave conditioning moisturizers.

#4 - Moisturize and Protect - It is vital to moisturize your face and neck daily. Men are usually outside more than women, so protection from the sun is also very important to prevent prematurely aging your skin.

  • Use a non-greasy oil-free moisturizer. Moisturizer helps tone, calm and tighten the skin after shaving.
  • Save time and money by opting for a day moisturizer that contains SPF 15 or higher. Also, be sure that your product protects against UVA (aging) rays AND UVB (burning/cancer) rays.
  • Be sure to apply moisturizer on face and neck area - and don't forget the back of your neck.

Additional Skin Care Men Tips:

If you have a little bit more time and want to do even more for the health of your skin, check out the tips below:
  • Minimize sun exposure. When you’re in the sun, be sure to use a sunscreen of SPF 25 or higher on exposed skin. If you play outdoor sports, use a sweat proof sunscreen and be sure to reapply it every two hours.
  • Stay in shape. Exercise promotes capillary functioning which can decrease premature aging. It also increases oxygen to the tissues which keeps skin looking young.
  • Eat right. Eat healthy, colorful foods. Steer clear of processed foods and too much sugar. Consume fresh fruits and vegetables to ensure you get sufficient amounts of Vitamins C and E. If your diet is less than perfect, boost it with a multi-vitamin or other supplements.
  • Stay away from excessive alcohol, smoking, fatigue and stress. Not only can these factors lead to premature aging; they also decrease facial circulation making you look older.
  • Take time to trim unsightly hair protruding from ears and nose.
  • Neatly trim your mustache, beard and sideburns.
  • Take good care of your teeth now or you'll be sorry later. Brush at least twice daily, and use mouthwash to keep your breath fresh. Regularly visit a dentist for cleaning and examinations.
  • Use moisture lotions on the body, especially on hands, feet, knees, ankles and elbows.
  • Use a separate eye gel if you suffer from under eye wrinkles, darkness or under-eye puffiness
Don’t neglect your lips. Try a soothing balm or an anti-chapping stick with an SPF of at least 15.
